Picked up a bottle of this at the local spirits store today as it was recommended to me by my brother who lives in NYC and lives next to the Hudson River. He said he visited this distillery over the summer and suggested I give it a shot.
In learning about this bourbon, this is the first leagal pot-still whiskey that has been made in the state of NY since prohibition. So that’s interesting but does that translate to a smooth good tasting bourbon?
This bourbon consists of straight bourgon from 3 different sized casks (15 gal/ 25 gal/ and 53 gal) that range from 2-4 years old that are then blended together making the unique taste that Hudson created.
Another aging note of importance is that they use deep sound waves (bass speakers playing loudly) around the barrels as they age to move the spirit around the barrel as it ages. Very unique and gives this a distinctive taste. Hopefully the neighbors didn’t mind.
Tasting Notes:
On the nose: nice vanilla with a newer oakey hints and almond.
On the Palate: To me it was a bit fruity at first with a nice rye spiciness as it goes down.
The Finish: Nice warming feeling sticks for a good minute with a taste of buttery honey. Very pleasing without the sting.
